Baltimore County police officer killed in line of duty identified as Amy Caprio

An officer killed in the line of duty in Baltimore County has been identified by officials.

The officer was identified as Amy Caprio, who the Baltimore County Police Department said was a 3 year, 10-month veteran of the force.

Authorities announced four suspects were in custody in connection to Caprio's death, including 16-year-old Dawnta Harris, who has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the officer's death. All four suspects were wanted for burglaries in the area, according to officials.

According to court records, Harris told a detective he was waiting in the driver's seat of a Jeep while associates committed a burglary.

Witnesses reported hearing a pop before seeing a Jeep run over the officer in the suburban community of Perry Hall, Maryland.

Caprio was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Baltimore County Police Cpl. Shawn Vinson said Caprio was investigating a call about a suspicious vehicle when she encountered at least one suspect and was "critically injured." He added that the confrontation may have stemmed from a burglary in progress, noting one home on the block had damage to a patio door.
