2 victims injured in violent crash on Indian Head Highway, Prince George's County officials say

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. - Two victims have been rushed to the hospital after a violent crash in Prince George's County, according to officials.

Fire officials said the crash, which happened at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on Indian Head Highway at East Swann Creek Road in Fort Washington, involved an overturned cement truck and two other vehicles.

Firefighters said there were five patients, including two children. Two adults were trapped in a vehicle, but were extricated after the vehicle was underneath the overturned cement truck. A tow truck had to be brought to the scene to lift the cement truck off of the car.

The two rescued victims were flown to the hospital by helicopter with life-threatening injuries. A woman and the two children were treated at the scene and released, authorities said.

The southbound lanes of Route 210 were closed and officials said they anticipated the lanes to remain closed for an extended period of time.

A speed camera is set to be installed along Indian Head Highway on Oct. 1. The camera is being installed after several fatal crashes on Route 210 - more than 60 in the last decade, including two this year with the most recent taking place late in August. That doesn't include the more than 130 crashes that have caused severe injuries.
