Woman, 2 children found dead in home in Herndon, Fairfax County police say
HERNDON, Va. - Fairfax County police are investigating the deaths of three people found inside a home in Herndon, officials said.
According to police, a homeowner called 911 at around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday after discovering two juveniles and a woman dead inside his house in the 1000 block of Safa Street. Investigators believe this appears to be domestic-related and there is not a threat to public safety.
"We have our crime scene detectives gathering evidence," said Fairfax County Police Lt. Eli Cory. "We're working to execute a search warrant to allow them to go into the house and gather that evidence. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death."
Cory said police have not yet notified the next of kin of the victims and they are unable to release any information about their identities at this time.
Detectives have been speaking with the homeowner, according to the police spokesperson.
People from a nearby mosque and neighbors at the scene said a husband and wife and at least two children live at the home.
A neighbor said he saw a man outside of the home as emergency responders arrived at the scene.
"He was very shaken," said the neighbor. "I went over to offer help and he put his hand up and asked me to 'Stop, please. I can't talk to you.' So I immediately backed off and went back to my home. It's a heartbreaking situation. All we can do it pray for everyone involved."
