Bodies of 2 men recovered from helicopter crash near Kent Island in Chesapeake Bay
KENT ISLAND, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Police are investigating a fatal helicopter crash that occurred around noon Saturday near Kent Island in the Chesapeake Bay.
The crash was reported at 12:18 p.m. and multiple jurisdictions responded and searched the area south of Bloody Point near the Kent Point Marina.
The wreckage was discovered at about 6 p.m. in about 55 feet of water.
The bodies of two victims were recovered. The pilot, Charles Knight, 38 of Mt. Airy, and passenger Matt Clarke, 36 of Pasadena, died in the crash. The state Medical Examiner's office will conduct autopsies.
Natural Resources Police investigators are working with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration investigators to recover the wreckage.
Authorities said the Guinbal Cabri G2GL helicopter took off from Tipton Airport, which is located near Ft. Meade.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
