Ashanti Billie funeral: Family, friends say goodbye to murdered Prince George's County teen
FORT WASHINGTON, Md. - Family and friends gathered Friday in Fort Washington to say goodbye to Ashanti Billie, a young woman from Prince George's County who was murdered and her remains found in Charlotte, North Carolina.
It was an emotional service as loved ones spoke about the 19-year-old who graduated from Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School.
"At this sad time, when something as sad as this happens, there are no answers, but there are countless reasons why we will remember as this life was taken away so unexpectedly," her mother Brandy Billie said.
Ashanti Billie's body was located behind a church hundreds of miles from where she was last seen in Norfolk, Virginia. The teen vanished after heading to work at a sandwich shop on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Norfolk on Sept. 18. Her car was captured on surveillance video captured coming and going from the base, but details surrounding her murder are still unknown.
The cause of Ashanti Billie's death has not yet been announced, but the FBI said it expects the medical examiner's final report soon.
