Joint Base Andrews: Celebrating 70 years of the United States Air Force

The United States Air Force is gearing up for a special air show this weekend to celebrate its birthday!

Named after one of the founding fathers of the U.S. Air Force, Lieutenant General Frank M. Andrews, the history of Joint Base Andrews dates back to the Civil War! In 1943 the airfield became operational.

Joint Base Andrews is best known for its special air missions that include transportation of government and military leaders.

The 2017 Joint Base Andrews Air Show will be held on September 16 and 17. will be open to the public.

Gates will open at 9am and close at 5pm each day. Free public parking will be available at FedEx Field with shuttles taking attendees to the base from 8am to 1pm and from the base to FedEx Field until 5pm. No public parking will be available on Joint Base Andrews.

9am - Ramp Opens

10:30am - Opening Ceremonies

10:40-3pm - Aerial Demonstrations: Warbird Aircraft, Aerobatic Aircraft, Golden Knights, Military Aircraft

3pm - USAF Thunderbirds

3:30pm - Takeoff

4:15pm - Thunderbirds Performance ends
