New Selena television series coming to Netflix
Netflix announced Tuesday it has ordered a new series about the life of the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla.
"Selena: The Series" will be a coming of age story, the streaming service said. The series has the support of the singer's family.
"Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives," said Suzette Quintanilla, Selena's sister in a statement. "We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come."
It's not known if the series will feature 30 minute or hour-episodes. A premiere date has not been set.
Selena is the best-selling female artist in Latin music history, with sales of more than 65 million albums. She was shot and killed in 1995 by her fan club manager, Yolanda Saldivar.
